One thing about newsletters…they’re wordy.
And, yeah, maybe it’s weird to say that as an author, but a piece of advice writers hear more than others is “show don’t tell”. Wouldn’t you say pictures are the ultimate expression of showing?
I don’t like to wait so long between sending you updates either, so I’m sorry, but this summer hasn’t felt like a summer, and I’m not just talking about the extremely rainy New England weather. It’s been extremely busy. The pictures below are but a taste of what that I mean!
Firstly, the Concord Library has been so kind to me as an author-in-residence. I’ve been teaching workshops, holding office hours, and meeting wonderful library patrons and residents who I’ll never forget.
Then there are the conferences. The two pictured are the Gotham Writers Children’s Conference, which featured me as a panelist alongside some AMAZING authors, and the much more intensive WriteHive Annual Conference. For the latter, I participated in several panels, but I suppose that comes along with being a Guest of Honor (yes, that’s a humble brag).
Finally, there’s my upcoming writers retreat, which now has fifteen WONDERFUL participants (you can learn more and sign up here). I’ll be with NYT bestseller Erin Entrada Kelly and literary agent Adria Goetz up in the stunning Catskills of NY this October. My discount code for $250 off is baklavacs, should you want to write and learn alongside top authors and publishing pros!
Oh, and there is one more thing. The sequel to Shad Hadid and the Alchemists of Alexandria is rapidly approaching its release date!
Check out Shad Hadid and the Forbidden Alchemies, which makes a wonderful gift for you or the fan of children’s fantasy books in your life. Pre-order your signed copy from Books of Wonder in NYC here. This is the best thing I’ve ever written, and I promise you won’t be able to put it down.
